Two young entrepreneurs have revolutionized the education industry in Los Angeles. When Daniel Makabeh and Elliot Farahnik were young boys they were taught the importance of ambition, persistence, and, of course, the cultural values of the old country– the importance of education was never a topic of discussion. Following their family’s immigration to the United States from Iran, the struggle to adapt to American culture and develop a stable source of income served as a large source of stress on their families. Such fruitless endeavors, like the value of education, were thrown under the one Persian rug of the Makabeh household. Of course, both students always were present during school, however, their attention was on the potential to support their families rather than learn from the professor. Throughout junior-high, Mr. Farahnik spent his days selling candy to other students during recess and lunch to make enough money to buy the Einstein science kit from the schools book fair. In high school, Mr. Makabeh seemed to spend more time in the bathroom making business calls than learning during class time. At a young age, it became relevant that both students were not able to gain financial support from their families.
So when it comes to the educational field, how did these two young businessmen get their feet in the door? Simple, they had to get their feet in the library first. With the realization that selling candy and used cell phones on craigslist was not going to fill their pockets, nor fulfill their curiosity and interests, both boys set out to finish high school early and get their GEDs. Although they were not able to gain immediate success, the significance of a college degree began to become more relevant. Transitioning to a lifestyle based around scores and letter grades, rather than numbers and dollar signs was not easy, but they learned that gaining knowledge was essential for stability and overall success. The problem that they now faced was finding the proper assistance to makeup for the lack of clear teaching methods and classroom structure that most government educational systems were guilty of. As both students moved on to complete degrees in business and medicine at Cal State Northridge School of Business and Economics and University of California Los Angeles finding a proficient tutor at a affordable price seemed inevitable.
Mr. Makabeh and Mr. Farahnik spent countless hours in pursuit of a lending hand from school tutoring programs and private tutoring companies. They discovered that school tutoring programs were crammed and poorly instructed; so much so, that each question would take so long to cover that it seemed more beneficial to study on their own. On the other hand, private tutoring companies were unreliable and extremely costly. Without the appropriate guidance, the students took initiative by reaching out to past honor students for peer tutoring. By the end of there college careers, they were at the top of all of their classes. The word about Mr. Makabeh and Mr. Farahnik academic success began to spread among their peers, so they began to start tutoring between their own schedules free of charge. The personal fulfillment they attained from developing relationships with students that shared similar adversities lead them to believe that tutoring others would serve as a rewarding life long career.
This pursuit to educate and assist their peers soon turned into a passion that has grown into a thriving private one-on-one tutoring company that has aided thousands of students in achieving their goals. Tutor Me LA, LLC was created with the promise to offer quality tutoring at an affordable rate to the larger Los Angeles community. The company’s foundation is built on hiring University of California Los Angeles students who passed at the top of their classes. Students from K-University are personally matched with tutors who flourish in specific subjects and have the experience to ensure the most beneficial tutoring experience. As a tutor, the opportunity to connect with students will persistently underscore the humanistic aims of our daily work. More importantly, the dynamic nature of the field will keep us intellectually engaged for as long as we remain involved in education.” –Daniel Makabeh & Elliot Farahnik

Very Inspiring!
I have all three of my children getting tutored by Tutor Me LA, they are a godsend! After going through countless ineffective and expensive services, I finally found a company that is reliable and creates real results. I don’t mean to sound like an ad, but the tutors that we have been using have truly become part of our family. My daughter calls them anytime she has last minute questions and they are more than happy to help. Highly recommend**
WOW! Never knew the history behind this fantastic company! Tutor Me LA has saved my children time and time again! My daughter had been struggling with biology and chemistry throughout high school and none of the four tutors we originally tried out (and spent $75/hr on) were able to help her grasp the subject. I was finally referred to Tutor Me LA by one of the teachers and was paired with an AMAZING tutor! Not only does this tutor spend the time to make sure my daughter understands the material, she always reviews at the beginning and end of each session. I can’t believe how affordable, yet professional the tutoring is! I will never look anywhere else for my children!
